Non-domestic rates relief scheme extended

Business Rate payers in Bridgend County Borough will benefit from the extension of the Retail, Leisure and Hospitality Rates Relief Scheme for 2022-23.

Welsh Government has announced that it will provide support to eligible businesses by offering a discount of 50 per cent on the business rates bills for such properties in order to support the occupation of high street and retail premises.

The scheme will apply to all eligible businesses but will be subject to a cap on the amount each business can claim. The total amount of relief available is £110,000 across all properties occupied by the same business throughout Wales.

Properties that will benefit from this relief include occupied retail, leisure and hospitality properties – such as shops, pubs and restaurants, gyms, performance venues and hotels across Wales.

It is expected that over 840 businesses across Bridgend County Borough will benefit from this relief scheme.

The Leader, Cllr Huw David said: “We welcome this support for businesses which have suffered due to the pandemic.

“This is a significant investment from Welsh Government. There are still businesses struggling with the effects of the pandemic and we need to do all we can to help these businesses.

“We will be putting information out via our social media platforms as soon as possible in order to tell businesses how to apply for the relief”.

Information on this scheme, along with registration forms, will be made available on the local authority’s website in due course.
