Victorian Christmas Event
Why not join us in making it a town event?
Museum volunteers will visit shops in early November to offer advice, if needed, on costumes and windows:
Some Helpful Hints
Costumes
- Women – long skirt, blouse, long coat, shawl or scarf and a hat.
- Men – old trousers, braces or belt, waistcoat, shirt, cap, muffler, and coat.
- Children same as above but adapted.
- You may hire, buy, or make costumes but if needed you can often adapt items found in Charity shops.
Windows
Victorian window dressing or shop decoration may include:
- Greenery,
- Crackers,
- Paper chains,
- Candles.
- Victorian Christmas cards
- Snow?
- Victorian photos of Porthcawl scenes available on request.
Other items planned so far:
Organising choirs for the bandstand.
The museum has already organised 3 schools
and an adult choir.
Outside the Museum
The Porthcawl Town Orchestra Museum Choir
Arlington Guitar Group
PTC have kindly approved the application for hire of the road train ‘Lucie’, a street entertainer, and a full page advert in the Seaside News.
Advertising
When all has been confirmed posters and advertising will begin.
Within the Museum
There will be entertainment, re-enactments, carol singing, snow and a small fayre of sweets and Christmas gifts.
Plus, the Porthcawl Lions Santa’s Grotto!
Will be housed in the museum garage.
Any other ideas will be welcome.
Shops who have expressed a wish to provide food so far are:
- The Fruit Bowl has suggested that they may provide chestnuts and mulled wine.
- Sarah’s Snakks mentioned that they are planning Victorian themed food.
Any advice on Victorian food will be available from the Museum if needed.
